Cosmetic Injectables
Neurotoxins
When wanting to treat fine lines and wrinkles, Peninsula Plastic Surgery offers several options of neurotoxin or botulinum toxin A, catering to each individual patient’s preference. Botox® Cosmetic is the most well-known brand name for a type of botulinum toxin (type A), however equally effective are Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify and Xeomin. When injected in small doses into specific facial muscles, the neurotoxin acts as a muscle relaxant, thereby minimizing the appearance of certain facial wrinkles.
Neurotoxin Is Safe
- Since Botox is a purified toxin and contains no organism, it does not have the capacity to multiply and spread. Thus, its only known effect takes place where it is injected and where it is moved via massage. No anesthesia is required, however, numbing cream is available for patients if needed.
Goals Of Injectables
- From a cosmetic standpoint, neurotoxin softens or completely erases facial lines or wrinkles, including vertical lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, forehead furrows and lines at the borders of the lips.
- Botox has more recently been used for treatment of severe hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms) for individuals unable to obtain relief using antiperspirants. It has been shown to result in an 82-87% decrease in sweating. Results are noticeable approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment with the full effects within 2 weeks. Dryness typically lasts 4 to 12 months. While sweating is an essential body function for temperature-control, the underarms are home to less than 2% of the body’s sweat glands. The temporary interruption of these sweat glands’ function, has little to do with regulating body temperature.
- Our certified injectors use neurotoxin to actually move certain structures on the face. For example, these doctors can produce some eyebrow elevation by injecting the muscles that normally pull them downward. They can flatten some muscle bands on the neck by simply injecting them. Because plastic surgeons are without question the masters of facial anatomy, they are uniquely able to produce amazing improvements and avoid complications.
Results can be seen in as little as 3 days and usually last 3-5 months. Patients state that, after undergoing multiple sessions of neurotoxin, their results tend to last longer than 6 months.
Side effects are few, rare and minimal. Some patients experience mild bruising at the injection site. Unwanted muscle weakness, eyelid weakness and allergic reactions are all rare potential complications.

Recovery time is minimal and side effects are few.
Results are immediate and can last up to one year.
FAQ’s
Who is a good candidate?
Neurotoxin injections are good candidates for individuals looking to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. They’re also suitable for people suffering from severe hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) not relieved by regular antiperspirants.
When will I see the results?
Initial results are typically noticeable within 2 to 4 days after treatment, with full effects evident within two weeks. For hyperhidrosis treatment, dryness usually lasts from 4 to 12 months.
How long do the results last?
The effects of neurotoxins on facial wrinkles can last approximately 3 to 4 months, after which treatments must be repeated. For hyperhidrosis, the results can last from 4 to 12 months.
What should I do before and after?
No specific preparation is required before receiving neurotoxin injections. However, if patients are concerned about discomfort, they may request a numbing cream before the procedure. After treatment, avoiding massaging or applying pressure to the treated areas for a few days is advisable to prevent the toxin from spreading to unintended muscles.
Is there any downtime or side effects?
Neurotoxin injections do not require significant downtime, allowing most individuals to resume normal activities immediately. Side effects may include temporary bruising, swelling at the injection site, and, less commonly, headache. Most of these effects are mild and quickly disappear.
What can I expect?
During the procedure, a fine needle injects small doses of neurotoxin into specific facial muscles. The entire process is relatively fast and typically only takes a few minutes. Neurotoxins temporarily relax muscles, helping to smooth out wrinkles and prevent the formation of new ones. For hyperhidrosis, injections are made into the underarm area to reduce excessive sweating. Follow-up treatments are necessary as the effects wear off over time.
