INITIAL CONSULTATION
One of our plastic surgeons and highly trained medical assistant educate every patient on breast augmentation and spend as much time as necessary to develop an understanding of the patient's individual needs and goals.
The plastic surgeon performs a focused physical examination to determine whether the patient would benefit from a breast lift as well as breast enlargement.
Once the doctor determines the surgical plan, the patient coordinator producse a written quote which lists all of the costs of the proposed surgery: fees for the practice, anesthesia, facility, breast implants and post-op garment. PRE-OP VISIT
Much is covered during the pre-op visit. First, one of our highly trained medical assistant takes the patient's pre-op photos.Next, the doctor explains the surgical technique and thoroughly informs the patient about potential complications of the surgery and the use of breast implants.
The doctor performs a more complete history and physical examination. He measures the patient's chest to ascertain the most appropriate diameter for breast implants. Every implant has two dimensions: diameter (width) and profile (projection or thickness). Based on whether the patient desires her breasts to appear natural or accentuated, the doctor and the patient together select the profile for the implants. We offer moderate profile implants, moderate plus profile implants or high profile implants.
Next the patient tries on implant samples we have in the office. We have bras which enable her to do this. We also have a full-length mirror which enables her to assess her body proportions as well as her simulated breast enlargement.

SELECTION OF IMPLANT TYPE
We offer saline and silicone gel implants, as modern studies indicate both are safe. Each type of implant has advantages over the other.Scars following breast enlargment with saline implants are usually shorter than those following enlargment with silicone gel implants. This is so because saline implants are not filled-up until after they are inserted, which means holes required for their insertion can be smaller thnt that required for the insertion of pre-filled silicone gel implants. Another advantage of saline implants is fluid may be added or removed at a later date.
Silicone gel implants have the advantages of feeling more natural to the touch. The other advantage of silicone gel implants is they are less likely to show rippling, which is an important issue is women with very little body fat.
While some surgeons use tear-drop shaped breast implants, the extensive experience of Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino and the satisfaction of hundreds of their patients compel them to routinely use round implants. University studies demonstrate round implants assume a tear-drop shape when the patient sits or stands upright.

THE BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY
Dr. Perrotta and Dr. Pellegrino routinely perform breast enlargement on an outpatient basis. Some patients prefer heavy IV sedation with local anesthesia while others require general anesthesia. Our patients have the luxury of having their surgery performed in our very own in-house operating room, which has the distinction of being fully accredited by AAAHC and certified by Medicare.Drs. Perrotta and Pellegrino place their incisions inside or just above the inferior mammary creases (breast folds) or around the areolas. Both of these approaches provide excellent exposure for the surgeon and therefore increase the likelihood of perfect results. Some other surgeons place incisions inside the arm pits or use the belly button as the site of entry. Unfortunately, the arm pit and the bellow button do not provide good exposure.
The surgeons then produces a pocket on each side of the chest to receive an implant. Our surgeons routinely form this pocket under the pectoralis major muscle, which makes for a more natural look and reduces the risk of capsular contracture. For an accentuated look, an occasional patient will request to have her pocket created above the muscle.
Our surgeons soak the implants in antibiotic solution, which reduces the risk of infection. Only thereafter do they insert them into the pockets. They then meticulously close the wounds in multiple layers of stitches.
Our nursing staff then apply the dressings and post-op garment. Back to top of page.
POST-OP RECOVERY:
Patients go home with an elastic bra. The bra produces pressure to prevent bleeding, and provides support to reduce discomfort from the bouncy ride home.Most patients experience pain for three days and then discomfort for two weeks thereafter. Oral narcotics adequately control such pain.
We usually schedule patients for follow up visits within one week after surgery, two to three weeks after surgery, six to eight weeks after surgery. These visits are complimentary. Back to top of page.
LONGTERM MONITORING
Our doctors monitor their patients closely. They offer complimentary annual check-ups during which the breasts are assessed for capsular contracture and migration of a breast implant.Our doctors will order routine mammogram for our patients.
